Why Is It Important To Be Holy As God Is Holy?

What does being holy look like for a believer living in our society today? Is it important for believers to be holy while living on earth? Is it obtainable to live holy on earth?  If you are anything like me, living holy sounds like an impossible task for us to accomplish. You know what, you are absolutely right! Only God has the ability to be holy. First let me say we do not have to be perfect to live Holy. 1 Peter 2:8 tells us that love covers a multitude of sins.

The love of Jesus covers the multitude of our sins enabling us to be holy. Holiness is a destination that we aspire to move towards as we journey through life. You make ask why is it important to be holy as God is holy? Well, Hebrew 12:14 tells us to pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. This means that if we want to experience the intimacy with the Lord on earth and share in His power on earth, we have to be positioned by first believing that Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords.

Similar to when we desire to have a relationship with people we take the time to get to know about that person. It is the same way with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The more we make time to spend with Him and allow ourselves to believe what He is revealing to us, then we will change because of the revelation we believed. When we allow ourselves to make time for God in our daily living through spending time with Him we are going to be able to hear His revelation for our life. It is also important for us to praise and worship Him within our gifts and talents which will solidify our relationship to Him as He reveals to us the best way to express our love for Him in this earth. The Lord desires for earth to exemplify heaven where His holiness abides and resides (read The Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13).

As believers we have the ability to choose to be in the image and likeness of our God. You can not become holy until you are righteous. People are righteous because of their belief in Jesus. Jesus puts you in the position to be holy because Jesus is the way, truth and the life to God, who is Holy. Because of us accepting Jesus as our Savior, our new nature is righteous that will change our conduct to be holy. We do not have the ability to be righteous or holy without submitting to the power of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Righteous people do not live by their emotions; but by the revelation of God’s will hidden in the spirit of His word, enabling holy conduct as well as holy emotions.

God does not see our imperfections or unrighteousness. We are already covered with the righteousness of Jesus when we decide to believe God’s will and purpose for our lives. In John 3:3 Jesus answered Nicodemus and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” The kingdom of God is the kingdom of Holiness. Being born again is a process of your mind soul spirit and body being transformed into the image and likeness of The Holy Trinity. The born again process enables you to transform into the image and likeness of holiness on earth.  Jesus was the body of God the Father and we are the body of Christ.

We are purposed to walk out the image and likeness of God in the earth realm just like Jesus walked the earth. 1 John 4:17 tells us, as Jesus is so are we in this world.  This is why Jesus tells us in Luke 10:27 when He answered and said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and ‘your neighbor as yourself.” To love God is to allow God to cover your mind, soul, spirit and body with the revelation of His begotten word.” John 3:16 tells us,” for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” This everlasting life is the destination of the believer that aspires to be holy through the empowering of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus released the Holy Spirit who enables us to live a holy. The Holy Spirit is our righteous nature who empowers us to have holy conduct that will become a new lifestyle. A new lifestyle of victory and overcoming ever battle in life that the enemy brings our way.

When we are in right relationship with the Holy Spirit we will win every battle every time! To me this is the wonderful abundant joyful life to the full that Christ promises us in John 10:10. I remember the times when I felt powerless and had no idea if I was going to win in the challenges and situations that I allowed myself to experience in my lifetime because of my bad decision making. Right thinking enables right believing that will create right behavior that will become right living. I am a living testimony of Romans 8:28 where it says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” God’s purpose is for us to live a holy lifestyle which is the “New Lifestyle Choice.”

When we live a holy lifestyle we experience the power of God that gives us dominion in the earth over every circumstance that comes to steal kill and destroy our success. To dominate the earth with the glory of His presence within our lifestyle is still God’s desire for us. Our lifestyle is a testament to unbelievers that God’s kingdom way is much better than the world’s kingdom way. Romans 12:2 tells us do not be conformed but transformed by the renewing of our mind.

The lifestyle submitted to seeking Gods kingdom and righteousness increases us in favor with God and man because the lifestyle is the pursuit to holiness. Why did Jesus at 12 years old astonish the teachers in the synagoues of His day? It was because His spiritual maturity was older than His twelve year old body. Everyone talks about their destiny. Your destiny is to be holy as your Lord God is holy. 2 Corinthians 6:14 asks us what does darkness have to do with light? Our lifestyles are suppose to be the city of God that is set on a hill that can not be erased because we exemplify the eternal light of His glory within the earth.

Why do we fellowship with people who do not believe Jesus is the only way to God? Although we are suppose to love unbelievers, we do not have to fellowship with them in our inner circles. Unbelievers are like the foreign women that God warned  Solomon not to marry. God told Solomon these women would change his heart against God and they did. To marry someone is to be in agreement with someone and to submit to their belief. We are not here to agree with the belief of darkness where satans kingdom hides and resides. We are here to destroy the beliefs of darkness through the power of His glory that is released in living a lifestyle of holiness.

Remember a believer is a worker of righteousness or a worker of iniquity. The word of God says He has given us authority to destroy the serpant scorpion and all the power of the enemy in this world. In Revelations 17, the word of God tells us to come out of the world’s way of living before we share in the judgment of the world’s sin of not believing Jesus is the way, truth and life to God. Let me tell you, good is not holy. Do you remember Adam and Eve when they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which is the tree that the world system is rooted in. Good is the seed of the tree of knowledge of good and evil but the fruit of the tree is the evil belief that empowers us to do Satan’s will on earth. As believers in Christ, we are on pursuit to produce fruit from the tree of life. The seed and fruit from the tree of life is the righteous beliefs of God that empowers us to do God’s will on earth. The pursuit to holiness is the pursuit to God which is the pursuit to heaven on earth.
